I’ve been missing from this blog for a while now – I’ve had some significant life changes and got caught up in my everyday. 🙂 But I’m back, and I’d like to resume using this website as an electronic portfolio and a blog for projects, ideas, and concepts I’m working on. The past year has been a whirlwind. I graduated from the University of Tennessee with two degrees, one in neuroscience and one in psychology. I began working as a safety damage prevention and environmental compliance data analyst with my local utility company. Here, I’ve been able to explore my love of data visualization and finding the root causes of problems.
Additionally, I took the summer and fall after graduation to connect and enjoy my time with my friends and family. I was so busy and driven with school and work while I was an undergraduate working on my thesis, the lab, my classwork, and my work with the utility company. This meant I wasn’t always able to be present with the people I loved most when I needed to be. So, as I said, I took that time, and I intentionally connected with friends I had not seen in many years and family that I got to engage with on a deeper level through trips to the Virginia wine country, hikes in the mountains, and, of course, jeeping in the mountains surrounding Knoxville. While this was a great 6 months, I knew I wanted to return to school and begin pursuing my master’s in public health. I’ve wanted to get this degree for many years as I am passionate about my community and my community’s health and trying to restore good health to all members of our community. I’m happy to say that I was admitted into the University of Tennessee’s Master of Public Health program under the Health Policy and Management Concentration. I began my program in January of this year, and I’ve absolutely loved it so far. It’s been so exciting and engaging to talk to people with different perspectives and learn more about the very big, very real impacts on my and our worldwide communities.
So, I thank you for having the patience and perseverance to stick with me this long. And I commit to you. However, I will better use this website to collect project information. I’ll also talk about articles I’m reading and thinking about and thoughts I have as time passes. These topics will range from personal interests to professional ones. I’m unsure which direction this will go, but I’m excited for the journey.
Thank you again! And, as always, it’s a great day to be a Tennessee Vol!
P.S. There is only one week till football season. And I am so excited for the kickoff game in Nashville against Virginia. I know that my Vols will play a wonderful game and crush Virginia.
(Or at least I hope so)
