It has taken me weeks to feel that I can put into words my emotions about the destruction and devastation that has occurred in Appalachia from Hurricane Helene.
My heart breaks thinking about the communities and families that have been torn apart, especially as clean-up efforts seem slow and the death counts rise… Like most Americans, I have seen many emotional videos of people losing their homes, their churches, and their roads. I have also seen inspiring videos reminding me and the rest of the country that the people of Appalachia are fiercely resilient and will bounce-back from this tragedy (even if it takes years or decades).
As power and road crews work to restore access to these communities, I hope that we, as a nation, keep them in our hearts and our prayers and do not overlook their calls for aid. I will keep this post updated with organizations working to help Helene survivors and donation links to help fund the rebuilding efforts as I see them.
