Digital & Health Literacy, AI, Social Media Health Literacy

I am interested in examining the role of social media on health literacy and digital literacy and exploring how these platforms shape individuals’ ability to access, understand, and apply health information. Social media has become a critical space for health communication, potentially enhancing health literacy through easily accessible content and peer support networks. However, it can also spread misinformation and contribute to misunderstandings.

Digital literacy is crucial in determining whether users can critically evaluate the quality of health information they encounter online. As more health information is shared digitally, disparities may widen for individuals or communities lacking the skills or resources to navigate digital environments effectively.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is beginning to impact this landscape by improving the personalization of health information and assisting in filtering reliable content. However, the review highlights concerns about AI’s role in amplifying biases and misinformation and the ethical implications of using AI for health-related data on social platforms. Overall, the interaction between social media, digital literacy, and AI presents opportunities and challenges for enhancing public health literacy.

Currently, I am working on creating a literature review that describes the current landscape of work in this field. I will share once it is completed.
