Year Two Coursework

Fall 2018

  • Bio 101: Introduction to Biology
    • This course refreshed my biology basics since I haven’t taken biology since I was a freshman in high school and I will be taking General Biology next semester.
  • Soci 120: Introductory Sociology
    • This was a fascinating class for me! I have never taken a class that encouraged me to question my assumptions as much as this course did. I learned how to think independently and defend my points of view. As well as, understand various social theories.
  • Pyed 237: Stress Management
    • This course taught me various ways of working through stressful situations and ways to perform better academically when times get busy.
  • Pyed 231: Walking
    • Wanting to make health a priority in this next year, I took a few physical education courses to both set aside time for fitness in my packed schedule and learn more about physical education.
  • Psyc 110: General Psychology
    • This was an introductory course in psychology and introduced me to the topics of psychology. I was very interested in the topics that were covered and this course caused me to be interested in changing my major away from chemistry to neuroscience.
  • Pols 312: Popular Culture and Americana Politics
    • I loved this class! It was so fun for me to think about all the ways that our society’s values and beliefs can show up in our popular media and how that can reinforce them. This course was centered on the 1960’s, which was a decade of significant tumult and change. One of my favorite parts of this course was watching the “old” movies and talking to my parents about them.

Spring 2019

  • Bio 150: General Biology I
    • This course focused on evolution and biological systems in the environment. From this course, I got interested in how we interact with our environment and how the environment interacts with us.
  • Ent 350: Introduction to Entrepreneurship
    • I enjoyed learning about how to take something from an idea to a finished product. We walked through the entrepreneurial processes from idea pitching to feasibility analysis. This course pushed me to think about problems from multiple perspectives, and strengthened my confidence in public speaking.
  • INPG 200: Neuroanatomy
    • This class was one of my favorites this year! We learned about the structure and function of the brain by dissecting sheep’s brains! I really loved the hands-on-learning of this course. It was so different from my other courses and was a nice change of pace.
  • Nutr 100: Introduction to Nutrition
    • I enjoyed learning more about nutrition and how it impacts our health in this class. This course made me think differently about food and my relationship with eating intentionally.
  • Psyc 301: Foundations of Behavioral Neuroscience
    • I took this class to learn more about neuroscience and check that this was a major I wanted to pursue. I enjoyed learning about the neurotransmitters, structures, and theories behind our brains and how they function.
  • Pyed 261: Scuba Diving
    • I took this course to learn how to scuba dive and get my NAUI certification. I loved this course and am now NAUI Certified!
