Year Three Coursework

Junior Year.

I can’t believe that time has flown by so fast and that I am approaching the end of my time on Rocky Top. This year was monumental for me – I solidified my majors and minors and joined a research lab ( and won an award for my research!). This year pushed me to grow in new ways and I am so grateful for all of the memories I gained while growing.

As I approach my senior year I am filled with excitement about what the future holds for me and can’t wait to start the next chapter of my undergraduate experiences.

This quote from Morgan Harper-Nichols is my motto for 2020.

This pandemic has been especially stressful for all of us, remember to show grace and kindness to yourself and others.

Fall 2019

  • Ausp 303: Introduction to Hearing Science
    • As a neuroscience major, I am learning about the brain and how it process information, so this course was a natural extension and curiosity for me. I really enjoyed learning about the complex design and function of the ear. The process of changing soundwaves to neurochemical transmitters was fun and interesting to learn about.
  • Biol 159: Skills of Biological Investigation.
    • This course walked through the basic steps and procedures of scientific inquiry, specifically for biology.
  • Biol 160: General Biology II
    • I learned more about cells and cellular processes in this class. This course also built on what I learned in Parasites, Pathogens, & Pandemics as well as in Foundations in Behavioral Neuroscience. This knowledge will help me going forward as I take biochemistry courses.
  • Ent 451: New Venture Planning
    • As part of my minor in Entrepreneurship, I took this course on pitching and developing new ideas and businesses. This course caused me to think analytically about opportunities and how to best share your ideas to other people in ways that they will be receptive to and how to interact with constructive criticism.
  • Psyc 330: Abnormal Psychology
    • I loved this course and learning about various mental health problems. This course caused me to change my thinking about mental health, and I am curious about learning more about mental and public health going forward.
  • Span 111: Spanish I
    • Hola! Learning Spanish is something I am working on, and hope to get better at as time goes on.

Spring 2020

  • Bio 150: General Biology I
    • This course focused on evolution and biological systems in the environment. From this course, I got interested in how we interact with our environment and how the environment interacts with us.
  • Ent 350: Introduction to Entrepreneurship
    • I enjoyed learning about how to take something from and idea to a finished product. We walked through the entrepreneurial processes from idea pitching to feasibility analysis. This course pushed me to think about problems from multiple perspectives, and strengthened my confidence in public speaking.

  • INPG 200: Neuroanatomy
    • This class was one of my favorites this year! We learned about the structure and function of the brain by dissecting sheep’s brains! I really loved the hands-on-learning of this course. It was so different from my other courses and was a nice change of pace.
  • Nutr 100: Introduction to Nutrition
    • I enjoyed learning more about nutrition and how it impacts our health in this class. This course made me think differently about food and my relationship with eating intentionally.
  • Psyc 301: Foundations of Behavioral Neuroscience
    • I took this class to learn more about neuroscience and check that this was a major I wanted to pursue. I enjoyed learning about the neurotransmitters, structures, and theories behind our brains and how they function.
  • Pyed 261: Scuba Diving
    • I took this course to learn how to scuba dive and get my NAUI certification. I loved this course and am now NAUI Certified!
